Prince Harry emphasized to the American presenter Oprah Winfrey that neither his grandmother nor his grandfather displayed racist behavior.
Allegations of racist behavior during Duchess Meghan’s pregnancy are not directed against Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, according to host Oprah Winfrey. Prince Harry did not tell who the allegations were targeting, Winfrey said on Monday on American television after broadcasting her interview with Harry and Duchess Meghan the night before.
But: “He wanted to make sure that I knew that neither his grandmother nor his grandfather were part of these conversations.” In the interview, Meghan had spoken of racist behavior during her pregnancy with her son Archie. There have been concerns and discussions about “how dark her skin might be when she is born,” Meghan said. This grew out of conversations between the “family” and her husband, Prince Harry. However, Meghan did not want to be more precise because this would be “very harmful” for some people. However, it is clear that a dark-skinned baby would have been a problem for the palace.
The conversation broadcast Sunday night (local time) on CBS broadcaster is Meghan and Prince Harry’s first interview since the couple left their royal duties a year ago. Meghan’s supporters had repeatedly accused the media and the royal family of campaigning, particularly against the duchess. There were also allegations that the wife of the queen’s grandson, Harry, was exposed to racism. The 39-year-old American’s mother is black.
The interview was originally three hours and 20 minutes and was later shortened to one hour and 25 minutes, Winfrey said Monday. She believes that Meghan and Harry wanted to do the interview because they felt that lies had been spread about them for so many years.
