Guest goals were scored by Michael Gregoritsch (35th) and Marcel Sabitzer (54th / penalty), while Erling Haaland was on the Scandinavian list (66th).
For the team boss, Franco Foda, it was the first international match after a break of more than nine months in Corona. The German had to do without David Alaba, Marko Arnautovic, Konrad Laimer and Valentino Lazaro, among others. Captain Julian Baumgartlinger sat on the bench for lack of training, Martin Hinteregger used the bow instead. Christoph Baumgartner celebrated his A-Team Debt in the 4-2-3-1 system and, like his colleagues, achieved a good figure over long distances.
The Austrians took the initiative early on and had much more possession than the hosts, but there were no real opportunities to play. The average was dangerous with a header from Gregoritsch clearly over the goal (3rd), with a blocked shot from Stefan Lainer and a few seconds later with a miss from Andreas Ulmer (both 20th).
The first really successful attack took the lead: Xaver Schlager managed to win the ball close to the 16th opponent and Ulmer hit a flank to Gregoritsch, who used the volley in the fall (35th).
Even after the goal, the Norwegians did not give any momentum in the game, Strmerstar Haaland did not do a trick against the FB defense in the first half. That didn’t change for the moment when Hinteregger had to leave the field in the 40th minute due to an ankle injury.
His substitute captain, Sabitzer, made things clear in the 54th minute. Karim Onisiwo hit Sander Berge in the arm at 16, and the Leipzig pro converted the penalty awarded in the left corner.
As a result, the technically superior Austrians let the ball and opponents run and seemed to play the game easily at home before they were met with a counterattack. Alexander Srloth suddenly appeared alone on the left side, Haaland used his cross pass to score his first goal in the third international match after he had quickly walked away from Hinteregger’s replacement Aleksandar Dragovic. Goalkeeper Alexander Schlager, who had been given preference over Cican Stankovic, was unable to defend himself.
The Austrians were not deterred by this setback and missed with a header from Sabitzer (68th) and a shot from Baumgartner (73rd) to the Norwegian goalkeeper Rune Jarstein. Berge missed the best chance for the local team to equalize, his header from close range flew far from the goal (83rd).
The FB selection continues on Monday with the home game in Klagenfurt against Rumnen, who also scored 1-1 at home to Northern Ireland on Friday. In October, after a test match against Greece at the Wrthersee stadium, they await the away games in the League of Nations against Northern Ireland and Romania.
