Around 5.30 pm an avalanche occurred in the municipality of St. Jakob im Defereggen – Durre district, which buried Defereggentalstrae (L 25) to a width of a few meters and a height of 1 to 3 meters. People or vehicles were not affected and there was no material damage. The Defereggentalstrae is currently closed from km 17.5 to 19.6. There is a local detour on municipal roads.
At 6:20 pm, an avalanche struck the Felbertauernstrae between the 1st and 2nd Lublasstunnel, completely buried the street and partially buried a car with a handlebar. The driver was released from the vehicle by accidental workers from the Matrei iO Mountain Rescue Team. There were no injuries and the car was not damaged. Felbertauernstrae is temporarily closed between Matrei-Hinterburg and Felbertauern-Sdportal for the entire night until January 3, 2021.
Life-threatening injuries after a slide accident
The toboggan accident had already started at noon: a 47-year-old Austrian went on a trip to the toboggan run at the Kramerhof in Kirchdorf in Tirol with her 51-year-old partner and their two children. For a previously unknown reason, the 47-year-old rider got off the toboggan run at the bottom section of the well-groomed, grippy toboggan run on a slight right-hand bend, went through a plastic net and got stuck in a wooden post. The woman was rescued from the ER doctor’s helicopter with a rope and flown to the St. Johann iT district hospital. Due to her life-threatening injuries, she had to be transferred to the Innsbruck clinic.
