A 57-year-old mountaineer from Vienna suffered a fatal accident on Friday in the Großer Pyhrgas area in the Spital am Pyhrn municipality (Kirchdorf district). He had been traveling alone. The man’s body was only located and recovered today by the flight police.

The landlord of a shelter had alerted the mountain rescue around 8:30 pm because the announced guest had not arrived. The Viennese car was parked in a parking lot. From there, emergency services searched for hiking trails and alpine climbs in the Großer Pyhrgas area. The mountaineer reached the summit at 2,244 meters above sea level, he had inscribed himself in the summit book.
