The Italian Yamaha rider Franco Morbidelli celebrated his first victory in the MotoGP category yesterday in San Marino. The Italian won ahead of his compatriot Francesco Bagnaia on a Ducati and Joan Mir (Sp) on a Suzuki. Valentino Rossi on a Yamaha narrowly missed his 200th podium in the premier class in fourth place, while pole-position Maverick Vinales only finished in sixth place. Things didn’t work out so well for the KTM racing team. The best was Miguel Oliveira (Por) in tenth.
The new leader of the world championship is Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso (seventh), as former French leader Fabio Quartararo lost his chances with two crashes.
In Moto3, Britain’s John McPhee won, while World Championship rookie Maximilian Kofler placed 22nd.
Luca Marini extended his advantage in the Moto2 championship with his victory.
The World Championship will move to the next round on Sunday with another race at Misano.
