For Austrian women’s football, the chances of participating in the 2023 world championships increase.

As the number of World Cup pitches has increased, the European contingent for the final round has increased: European footballers have received eleven direct qualification slots and thus the largest contingent for the tournament, which will be contested by first time with 32 teams.

This arises from a message published by the FIFA world association at Christmas. This means that there will definitely be two more teams from Europe in the Australia and New Zealand finals than before. The last time the Women’s World Cup was held with 24 participants.

One more place for other federations

Asia now has six direct ranking places, Africa and North and Central America four each, and South America three. That is one more than before. For Oceania, it remains a direct place for New Zealand. The co-host Australia is also automatically included.

The three innings still open will be played in the play-offs with ten teams from all the confederations. A team from Europe participates.
