More corona measures could be announced on Saturday – Coronavirus Vienna

The evaluation announced for the end of this week will probably show that the corona measures that have been in force since November 3 are not enough given the growing number of infections. The date has not yet been officially confirmed, but a press conference will reportedly be held on Saturday afternoon.

What tightening should actually come was still in political dispute on Friday. Corona’s stoplight commission, which turned the entire country to red on Thursday night, recommended taking additional measures “as soon as possible” to prevent the collapse of the healthcare system. The recommendations were not more specific, but reference was made to exit rules and entry bans in the Covid Measures Law. However, this has not been officially confirmed, nor are there reports of the alleged closure of providers of body-friendly services, such as cosmetic studios or massage parlors, or of other contact restrictions.

Above all, there is still a fight over possible school closures. On Thursday night, the Corona traffic light commission ruled in favor of schools that are still open to under-14s. The Federal Chancellery abstained from voting on this decision. Although the Minister of the Ministry of Health and Education, Heinz Faßmann (ÖVP), has been more cautious with the closure of schools and the opposition to the representatives of parents and companies has expressed a clear no, it is reported that the Chancellery is in favor of a more restrictive course. However, the traffic light commission recommended new preventive measures to allow the operation of the school for children aged 10 to 14 years. Rapid antigen tests will be used, the requirement of masks for students and teachers also in class, an astonishing opening hours of schools, the use of larger rooms and sports only outdoors.
