Dominic Thiem’s successor has been found as the Kitzbühel winner: Miomir Kecmanovic, 21, born and residing in Belgrade, prevailed 6: 4 and 6: 4 in the final of the Generali Open against Yannick Hanfmann. Not without drama: Even in the last game, the German had two chances to break again after Hanfmann made a small comeback early in the set. However, after a 76-minute playing time, Kecmanovic was celebrated as the winner of an ATP tournament for the first time. In 2019 he was already in the final in Antalya.
It was already clear after the first round that the Serb, who moved to the IMG Academy in Florida at the age of 13, would be expected at this edition of the traditional tournament in Kitzbühel. Kecmanovic had beaten Kei Nishikori after losing the first set. But the trip to Kitzbühel was also worth it for Yannick Hanfmann. TennisBase player Oberhaching came in as qualified and set his career best result when he reached the final. In 2017, Hanfmann reached the final in Gstaad.
The experiment with almost 2,000 viewers per day can be described as successful in Kitzbühel, the audience adhering to the crown-related guidelines in a disciplined manner. And he was rewarded by the weather gods too: Tirol Unterland may be rainy in early September, but not a single match had to be interrupted for a minute in the tournament week that just ended. Summer conditions also prevailed last Sunday.
In the doubles competition Austin Krajicek and Franko Skugor managed to beat the seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos with 7: 6 (5) and 7: 5.
