New features in the quarantine determination: the free test is only possible from the fifth day with a negative PCR or antigen test

Vienna (OTS / BMSGPK) On December 19, 2020, the amendment to the COVID-19 Entry Ordinance (“Ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection on entry into Austria in relation to COVID-19”) enters into force.

There are still no entry restrictions for people entering from the countries listed in Appendix A, provided they have been in these countries or Austria for the last 10 days.

Annex A countries: Australia, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Uruguay, Vatican

A mandatory 10-day quarantine applies to people entering Austria from countries not listed in Appendix A. From the fifth day you can carry out the free test with a negative PCR or an antigen test. It is possible to leave the country before the end of the quarantine if it is ensured that the risk of infection is minimized as much as possible. The corresponding quarantine form must be signed when entering. We urge you to print and complete this form (it will be available for download shortly from the Ministry of Health website).

The following individuals do not have to go into quarantine if they can present a medical certificate upon entry that confirms a negative PCR or antigen test and the test was not more than 72 hours ago:

  • Humanitarian forces
  • Business travelers (including, for example, 24 hour carers)
  • Participants due to a subpoena
  • Medical companions
  • Diplomats with identity card

If the test is only carried out in Austria, the quarantine may end as soon as a negative PCR or antigen test result is available.

Entry is possible for the following people without restrictions (these exceptional reasons must be justified during an official review):

  • People who are in the imperative interests of the republic.
  • Transitpassagiere
  • People entering or re-entering as part of regular passenger traffic (at least once a month) for work reasons, unless they are caregivers (see above)
  • People who enter or re-enter as part of a daily commute to work (at least once a month) for family reasons or to visit their life partner
  • People who travel to the country to receive essential medical services
  • People crossing foreign territory (for example, the Great German Corner)
  • People traveling to Mittelberg (Kleinwalsertal), Vomp-Hinterriss or Jungholz

Entry is also possible without restrictions for unforeseeable, urgent and especially worthy reasons in the family sphere, such as serious illnesses, deaths, funerals, births and the care of people in need of support in emergency situations.

For entry in connection with other important events that can be planned in the family circle, such as weddings, baptisms, birthday parties or non-regular visits to the couple, the general rules of quarantine apply according to immigration regulations.
