A visit to a restaurant proved fatal for the Czech health minister, Roman Prymula. President Zeman announced the dismissal.
It is an avoidable misstep that was the undoing of Czech Health Minister Roman Prymula. Rudolf Anschober’s colleague has been under pressure since last week because a paparazzo photographed the minister leaving a restaurant that should actually be closed due to strict Corona rules.
Prymula must now leave his post. President Milos Zeman will fire Prymula and name physician Jan Blatny as his successor on Thursday, the president’s office said Tuesday. Blatny is deputy director of a hospital in Brno and is seen as a newcomer to politics.
In view of the dramatic development of the crown in the Czech Republic, Prymula had issued stricter exit and contact restrictions even last week. Since then, only trips to work, family and the doctor are allowed. Many stores also had to close. On Monday, Prymula announced a night curfew that will take effect on Wednesday night.
