In Vienna, the participants formed a human chain about three kilometers long in the ring. It seemed much longer because the stewards meticulously made sure that there was at least two meters between the participants. There were no incidents during the demonstration. “Weather protection of the mouth and nose” was proclaimed as the motto.
“Climate protection and social justice should no longer be at odds with each other,” said organizer Lisa Kiesenhofer. The human chain is intended to symbolize that “overcoming the climate crisis requires the cohesion of all parts of our society.”
Protests in all federal states
While in Vienna, according to the organizers, “a few thousand” took to the streets, there were around 700 in Innsbruck who campaigned for a more coherent climate policy. The participants cycled through the Tyrolean capital. More than 500 people gathered in Graz, in Salzburg there were about 250.
