Mike Pircher hopes to take a step forward with the ÖSV Giant Slalom Team
Santa Caterina – Even if the men’s second giant slalom could not be held on Sunday in Santa Caterina in northern Italy, ÖSV supervisors are still playing. Marcel Hirscher’s father, Ferdinand, and successful coach Mike Pircher work with the Roland Leitinger and Co. training group. But Pircher doesn’t see any of the athletes as a true “killer.”
After the first race yesterday, Leitinger only finished 26th; Stefan Brennsteiner missed qualifying for the final after an indoor ski error. Manuel Feller, best of the Austrian team at halftime, was eliminated in the second round. Ferdinand Hirscher and Mike Pircher were only able to achieve partial successes, especially since Marco Schwarz was the best athlete in ÖSV with two days of training on his legs.
Adrian Pertl was a small ray of hope, because with the very long start number 63 he scored his first points in the World Cup in the discipline of giant slalom care. Everyone is waiting for Monday’s races for the team to step up. Pircher remains optimistic and hopes for a place in the top 10. This could also build self-confidence within the team a bit.
