In the investigation into far-right talks by police officers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there were records of two officers. He has been suspended from his duties, Interior Minister Lorenz Caffier (CDU) said in Schwerin that night. Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against two other policemen, but they have not been searched. A total of 17 officials and a collective bargaining employee of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state police are currently suspected of exchanging far-right ideas in online conversations.

Over the past three years, internal police investigations have brought new cases to light. The starting point was a case against the alleged far-right preparation group “Nordkreuz”, which according to Caffier is still ongoing. In this context, a large amount of data was obtained from a former member of the Special Operations Command (SEK) of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This will be intensively evaluated, Caffier said.

No more cases can be ruled out. During the raids on Friday, storage media were mainly seized in the apartments and offices of the two policemen.

Caffier: “Rotten apples on a healthy tree”

The Interior Minister spoke of the shameful results of the investigation. However, a far-right network is not recognizable. The alleged police officers would meet through joint training sessions. “There are bad apples on an otherwise healthy tree,” Caffier said. “We have to solve them completely.” These people have no place in the police.

Apparently no connections to NRW

According to current knowledge, there are no connections to the scandal of far-right talks with the police in North Rhine-Westphalia, as the interior minister said. On NRW, 30 police officers are suspected of exchanging far-right material in chat groups. According to the Interior Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Herbert Reul (CDU), photos of Adolf Hitler and the fictitious depiction of a refugee in a gas chamber are among the images that were shared there.

On Friday, investigators discovered ammunition, a rifle and a small amount of amphetamine during a raid on a female police officer. The woman is now being investigated, among other things, for drugs.

According to information from SPIEGEL, some suspects in the NRW case have admitted the posts. According to this, it is said that several policemen confessed their own fault and stated that the content of the talks did not correspond to their political convictions.
