After the corona test centers in South Tyrol municipalities closed on Sunday evening, South Tyrol water companies were able to draw up a preliminary balance. So far 343,227 people have participated in the “South Tyrol Trials” campaign. 3,185 test results were positive, which corresponds to 0.9 percent. A total of 61.9 percent of the total population of South Tyrol could be surveyed. Around 350,000 people were summoned to participate in the massive tests.
In the evening, the medical services again reported problems with the delivery of the results. This is due to “incorrect or incomplete” data from citizens. Therefore, those affected should contact their municipality by phone or email and add or correct the data. Anyone taking a test is informed of the test result by email with an encrypted PDF. The PDF can be opened with an access code sent by SMS.
overload
Also, there was a server overload on Sunday afternoon. The problem could be resolved after two hours, he said. The “South Tyrol Trials” campaign will continue next week. Until Wednesday there is the possibility of getting tested for the virus at participating doctors and pharmacies.
Governor Arno Kompatscher (SVP) was delighted with the response at a press conference on Sunday: “Our optimistic expectations were exceeded.” Control over the infection process can now be regained, because South Tyrol “could no longer keep up with normal contact tracing.”
Asymptomatic “fish”
In fact, the number of those who tested positive was suspected to be higher. Those who have now been “caught” were in the vast majority of cases asymptomatic. These would have remained undetected without the test campaign. Kompatscher admitted, however, that a certain percentage of the population could not be reached and warned: “We will continue to have infected people.” He once again called on the population to continue to adhere to the Crown’s measures, which are also very strict in South Tyrol, especially since the South Tyrolese have now “put in so much effort.”
The massive tests also attracted the interest of Austrian politicians. A representative of the Austrian Crown Crisis Team Operations Directorate was dispatched to South Tyrol. “It shows that we can learn a lot from the experiences of South Tyrol, especially that continuous digitization, its continued functionality despite extreme stress and correct communication are crucial,” said Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) in a transmission.
