A house collapsed in Lienz on Saturday. The roof of a corridor gave way under the weight of the snow masses.
As reported, a snow chaos is wreaking havoc in Carinthia and some parts of Tyrol at the moment. Especially in Tyrol, Mrs. Holle probably did very well on Saturday. The snow load caused a building to collapse on Saturday night in the town of Lienz. An old auction room has completely collapsed. It is currently unknown if there are people among them. Two avalanche dogs were also requested. The Lienz fire brigade, Lienz police, community operations management and private excavation companies are in action.
Road blocks after avalanches
Also, the avalanches caused emergency services in Tyrol to create. Around 5.30 pm there was an avalanche in the municipality of St. Jakob im Defereggen – Durre district, which buried Defereggentalstraße (L 25) to a width of a few meters and a height of one to three meters. An immediate check showed that no people or vehicles had been affected or buried. There was no material damage. The Defereggentalstraße is currently closed from km 17.5 to 19.6. A local detour had to be installed via local roads.
Only about an hour later, an avalanche occurred on Felbertauernstrasse, between the first and second Lublasstunnel, in which the road was completely buried. During the avalanche, a car was partially buried with a handlebar. The driver was released from the vehicle by the Matrei iO mountain rescue team, who happened to arrive in a car. There were no injuries and the car was not damaged. The Felbertauernstraße is temporarily closed between Matrei-Hinterburg and Felbertauern-Südportal for the whole night until January 3, 2021.
