Test stations will be installed in the town hall, the Marx hall and the exhibition hall. Other federal states have already published plans.

In Vienna, population mass corona testing will begin in early December. Specifically, the city wants to bring the megaproject to the stage between December 2 and 13, Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) said Thursday. Expect a maximum of 1.2 million people to participate.

The processing will be carried out in cooperation with the armed forces at three main locations: in the Wiener Stadthalle, in the Marxhalle in the Landstrasse district and in the exhibition hall near the Prater, a total of 300 test lines of according to the principle of access without prior appointment. “That corresponds to 50 times the capacity of the current test lane in the stadium,” where there are six test lines, Hacker illustrated the dimensions of the project.

According to the department head, up to 500 people per day can be managed per test line. This means that up to 150,000 people per day can be screened for virus infection with antigen testing at all mass testing sites.

The federal states rush forward

Preparations for the tests are also underway in the other federal states, but at completely different planning levels. This is demonstrated by a provisional balance of the armed forces, which, also to varying degrees, is involved.

Originally, it was planned to start all teachers and kindergarten teachers on December 5 and 6 to test and then the 40,000 policemen in the next two days, and the mass tests for the population only for the weekend before Christmas ( December 19/20). Now, however, several federal states have rushed in and announced that they would try before and organize everything themselves in part. The police are also not supporting the army and are organizing their tests themselves with the help of the Red Cross – details will be released on Friday.

Vorarlberg Y Tirol test the stock on December 5 and 6. The westernmost federal state is practically finished with planning: 80 test stations for 5,000 people each are planned, of which 2,000 to 3,000 are expected for tests, open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are still no concrete hours in the Tirol.

Salzburg Y Carinthia tests a week later, on December 12 and 13. One of the arguments for moving forward is that those who tested positive will come out of quarantine at Christmas and will be able to celebrate normal Christmas.

In Upperösterreich Teacher tests are considered a test, depending on the test stations and test roads that are planned. As things stand today, compulsory schools should be used for this.

Am Burgenland federal schools are available as test stations. Civil emergency organizations are preparing a concept for the sample test station. There are a total of 8,000 examiners for the teacher tests, it is estimated that approximately 90 percent will take the tests and approximately 7,100 people will take the tests on December 5 and 6. Ten test stations are required for testing. Test station locations will be determined at the end of the week.

Demand for participation without internet

In a letter to the government, SPÖ-Pensionistenverband (PVÖ) warned that people without computers or smartphones could be excluded from massive corona tests. The president of PVÖ, Peter Kostelka, demands in the letter that the trial participation of those who do not have Internet access or email address be guaranteed.

The PVÖ’s letter is addressed to Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (both ÖVP) and Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens). “It must be ensured that participation in mass corona tests is guaranteed even without the mandatory use of digital media,” wrote Kostelka.

This is an important and necessary measure at a time when many older people are already restless after a “time gap” via the Internet for the test date was necessary in South Tyrol and the test result is announced by email. This procedure could not reach everyone in Austria, so an analog communication line is needed.
