A day of skiing can start with class. Comfortably in the heated leather massage seat with a glass of champagne in hand and the right sound in the VIP gondola on the way to the top of the mountain in Hochzillertal. Once at the top, the less athletic can quickly swap out their ski boots for slippers and enjoy brunch in the cabin.
Cable keepers invent a lot to take not just passionate skiers up the mountain. This is also demonstrated by the offer of one of the largest private cable car companies in Austria, the Zillertal Schultz Group. In your Hochzillertal-Kaltenbach ski region, you can choose to go in winter via ferrata or in Spieljoch Fügen for the kilometer-long toboggan run. “This is a winter experience,” says Martha Schultz, who, together with her brother Heinz, runs the Schultz Group with ski areas in North and East Tyrol, 14 hotels, cabins and restaurants and a travel agency. The family empire normally employs 800 people and has an annual turnover of 100 million euros. But this year everything is different. “My mother says this is the first Christmas since 1968 that we celebrated without guests in the house,” says Schultz.
Travel advisories guarantee a peaceful Christmas. For guidance: Usually eight out of ten guests from abroad travel to the Zillertal. And the thoroughbred tourism expert has already experimented a lot with international guests. For example, with the Americans who ordered ketchup with the Salzburger Nockerln. “I was horrified, I went to the chef and wanted him to explain to the guest that it was not possible. But he just said the customer was king, ”says Schultz. “I had to look away when the guests ate the meatballs with tomato sauce.”
