Mandatory vaccination depends on the question of whether vaccinated people transmit the virus.

Stöger argues that we should wait a little longer: first, because there are currently not enough vaccines available for everyone; second, because all doubts about whether vaccination is safe must be removed. In spring and summer, the number of infections is likely to decrease again; the government should take advantage of this relaxation phase to persuade them.

“But if you find that people are unmotivated and we face a lockdown again in the fall, then the question arises: will the state allow an unvaccinated minority to endanger economic life and the public health system?” the medical attorney.

Block unvaccinated people

A law would be required for mandatory vaccination, and Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) has already made it clear that this is out of the question for him.

However, a certain indirect vaccination requirement is realistic, meaning those who are not vaccinated will be “excluded” from certain areas of public life. However, only of those that do not relate to daily needs, says Stöger.

A plane trip, a visit to a disco, a concert or other cultural events is not essential. “It is not discrimination to ask for vaccination protection.” Leaving unvaccinated people in a “lockdown state”, including exit restrictions, is probably not justifiable.

Alternatives to vaccination should also be accepted: for example, if a person who has not been vaccinated wears an FFP2 mask or has a current negative test result before each visit to a local restaurant. But that, according to Stöger, is likely to get “bothersome” at some point, leading to the fact that they are still vaccinated.
