Luger: “The virus is spreading in the living room” – Upper Austria

The mayor of Linz Klaus Luger (SPÖ) rejects the gastronomic registration provided by the state of Upper Austria.

According to Luger, the average age of those infected in Linz is currently 30 years. According to Luger, between a third and 40 percent of positive people “do not have any symptoms.” “There is one thing that we must not ignore. In fact, there is one group that we must protect in particular, and they are the elderly,” Luger said.

According to Luger, people under the age of 60 have symptoms “like the flu.” However, starting at age 65, the course of the disease is “often dramatic.”

“The virus spreads in the living room”

Meanwhile, there are new scientific findings. Only three to four percent of transmissions occur through surfaces, and almost no children transmit the virus.

Of all those currently infected, none would have been infected on public transport or at work.

“The virus does not come by car, the virus spreads in the living room,” Luger said. “I ask all the Linzers to be very disciplined in their private lives,” the mayor continued. “We will have to be more disciplined.”

Linz Council Against Gastro Registration

Measures that do not help should not disturb people. Luger: “We do not consider registration in the restaurant industry to be productive.” The contagion would occur in the private space, not in the restaurant.

Health Councilor Michael Raml (FPÖ) is also against registration. So many freedoms should not be restricted. Not everyone has to know who was with whom in a pub and when. Also, there is not a single case in Linz that goes back to gastronomy.

Linz must adhere to the implementation of the measures. You’ll check it too, so Raml. “But with a sense of proportion,” the city council said.

New Rules for Nursing Home Visiting

One measure that makes sense, according to Luger, is stricter controls in nursing homes and access restrictions. Only two different visitors are allowed per resident of a nursing home per day; fever measurements should be taken at the entrance.

“This is not the time for the kiss-kiss society right now, but it shouldn’t be a time of isolation either,” Luger concluded.
