Lufthansa chief Carsten Spohr hopes to cut 10,000 jobs in the crown crisis. The CEO of German parent company AUA said in an internal message to employees on Friday that the fleet would be reduced by around 100 aircraft. Before the pandemic broke out, Europe’s largest aviation group had around 130,000 employees and 760 aircraft worldwide.
Spohr does not expect the situation in the aviation group to normalize before 2023. A Lufthansa spokesman said in the afternoon that Lufthansa would separate from employees, negotiations with unions were still ongoing.
As a result of the crisis, aircraft utilization will decrease by 10 percent and revenue will decrease accordingly. Furthermore, the airline group, which is currently negotiating a nearly € 10 billion financial package with Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Belgium, will have to spend more than € 1 billion a year to repay the loans.
In any case, Spohr doesn’t expect a balance for the company until 2023, which will be different later. “We were the first industry to be affected by this global crisis and aviation will be the last to leave,” said the Lufthansa chief.

The company had announced that the operating loss of € 1.2 billion in the first three months of this year would be followed by an even greater downside in the current quarter.
