Most of the new infections were reported in Lower Austria on Monday, followed by Vienna with 579 and Upper Austria with 558.
Lower Austrian state medical personnel reported 592 new coronavirus infections in 24 hours on Monday. According to information from the office of the State Health Councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig (SPÖ), 25,966 people were in quarantine at home. On Sunday 28,921 were still registered.
With 592 new infections, Lower Austria led the ranking on Monday, followed by the federal states of Vienna (579), Upper Austria (558), Styria (330), Tyrol (323), Salzburg (242), Carinthia (215), Vorarlberg (157) and Burgenland (149) – more here.
“The numbers are still dramatically high”
A total of 3,145 new corona infections were reported in Austria in the past 24 hours as of 9:30 am Monday. However, “far fewer tests are recorded” on Sundays, Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) put in perspective at a press conference (this time: 20,422 CRP tests). The numbers are generally “still dramatically high.” But you can see the first signs that the measures “slowly” and “step by step” are beginning to take effect, according to Anschober.
Before the planned end of the lockdown, “the numbers would have to go down a lot,” Anschober stressed. The currently lower number of new infections should motivate continued support for the measures.
71 dead in the last 24 hours
Another 71 patients with or from Covid-19 have died in the last 24 hours. In total, the pandemic in Austria claimed 2,459 lives, according to the Interior Ministry. In nursing homes and for the elderly there has been an increase of four patients since yesterday (a total of 2,748 active cases), which means “a slight decrease in growth”, as Anschober has said. But anticipation is not necessary yet. Eleven residents of such facilities died, bringing the total number of Covid deaths in nursing homes and nursing homes to 944.
As of today, according to the Interior Ministry, 175,527 people infected with Covid-19 have recovered since the count began. On Monday, 4,548 people were in hospital treatment for the coronavirus (according to Anschober, an increase of 90), of which 685 were in intensive care units.
The situation of intensive care beds is as follows: in Vienna (at 9 a.m.) 145 are occupied, in Upper Austria 139, in Lower Austria 105, in Styria 121, in Tirol 64, in Vorarlberg 39, in Carinthia 34 and in Burgenland 14. There are still 507 intensive care beds available throughout Austria, most of them in Vienna (263), followed by Lower Austria (97) and Styria (34).
