On Wednesday, strangers opened several lockers in a bank in Mödling and cleaned them. To do this, they broke into the safe area of the bank’s safe, confirmed on Friday morning the police spokesman Johann Baumschlager in a report in the newspaper “Kurier”. Another bank in Klosterneuburg was also cleared.
The coup is said to have taken place on Wednesday. The Lower Austrian State Criminal Police Office took over the investigation.
It was not initially clear how the perpetrators had access to the lockers. “We are at the beginning of the polls,” the spokesman said. Baumschlager did not confirm that, as rumored, an international band was working.
Lockers at Mödlinger Bank cleared
According to the executive, the amount of the damages was not determined either. The “messenger” had reported a million dollar hit. A spokeswoman for the bank in question told ORF Lower Austria that “from the current point of view, only a few lockers are affected.” He also stressed that there was a “modern multi-level system” and that security measures were high. Usually jewelry, valuables or documents would be deposited.
According to “Kurier” on Wednesday evening, a businessman from the Mödling district was one of the first to notice the lack of belongings. The man wanted to put coins in the bank safe. “I requested the locker, as always. But it was empty,” he said.
Another Lower Austrian financial institution affected
The investigation into the empty and broken lockers at a bank in Mödling brought more circles Friday morning. As announced by police spokesman Johann Baumschlager upon request, the lockers of a financial institution in Klosterneuburg (Tulln district) were also emptied. The act is said to have been committed, as in Mödling, on Wednesday. Baumschlager also confirmed that the same modus operandi had been used.
Initially, it was not clear whether they were the same group of perpetrators. “The traces are backed up and compared,” Baumschlager said, referring to ongoing investigations by the Lower Austrian State Criminal Police Office.
