“Experts assume that influenza increases the risk of a serious form of COVID-19. Therefore, the state of Lower Austria has decided to make influenza vaccines available free of charge for risk groups, the chronically ill, people who are exempt from prescription fees, the 65-year-old group or more and the employees of the mobile care services, ”said State Councilor Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig and State Councilor Martin Eichtinger, justifying the purchase of 80,000 additional flu vaccines for the population of Lower Austria.

These are primarily intended to be made available to the Insurance Company for Public Employees, Railways and Mining (BVAEB) and the Social Security Institute for Independent Workers (SVS) as part of a vaccination campaign carried out by the Province of Baja Austria. The costs of the vaccination points and the vaccination fee are covered by the Austrian Health Insurance Fund and the country, according to the insurance company.

Recently, the 636 physicians who participated in the influenza vaccination campaign ordered and vaccinated more than 33,000 doses of vaccination. The remaining 47,000 doses in the quota will be distributed free of charge through pharmacies to Lower Austrians who have registered with pharmacies and have expressed interest in a flu vaccine.

Each of the 240 pharmacies in Lower Austria receives an average of around 196 doses of vaccine. This should meet the demand as well as possible. The childhood vaccination program as well as vaccination in state clinics and nursing and care centers has already been completed in recent weeks.
