Since Thursday last week, around 100 students and teachers have been quarantined at their homes in Strasshof an der Nordbahn. As Mayor Ludwig Deltl (SPÖ) reports, the first signs of infection appeared last Wednesday: “Principal Strohmayer called me and informed me that some teachers suspected they were infected with Covid-19.”
Principal Helmut Strohmayer specifies the processes of the last week: “In the week before there was a teacher who showed typical symptoms of Corona. I referred her to 1450, they did the test and it was positive.”
At the same time, one student tested positive, so he was quarantined for the entire first year, that is, 100 students and 10 teachers. Now two more infections have been added. A teacher and a student are affected. The fact that the school came out so lightly has, among other things, to do with the concept that Principal Strohmayer used: “We divided the school into four quarters. So four teams, one per year. and they could prevent the infection from spreading to other cohorts. “
Annoyed by the authorities
What the principal does not like at all is how the health authorities treated his teachers. Because there were serious problems beforehand during testing. “I felt very ugly that the teachers were finally being tested. Because the teachers were waiting almost a week.”
The first group was tested on Wednesday, the second group will be tested today, Thursday. Principal Strohmayer expects “normal” school operations to resume next Monday and for all students and teachers to return to school.
From the principal’s point of view, there was no danger of the school being closed. Precisely because the students and teachers have divided into four teams since classes began. “I did that at the time because I had a premonition that a case could arise,” said the director.
17 infections in Strasshof
The growing number affects not only the school, but also the entire community. As Mayor Deltl reports, there are currently 17 positive cases in Strasshof. “This is also due to the group in school. With these numbers, we are roughly in the range where we were in the spring in late March and early April. You can clearly see that the numbers in the community are increasing.” Delta said.
The rest of the school is still open, the lessons for the other students are taking place as planned. Teachers in home quarantine teach students through homeschooling.
