Long term, no reward in the end

It wasn’t meant to be. Johannes Lamparter and Lukas Greiderer entered the cross-country ski trail in a promising position after jumping, but in the end the red-white-red duo were left without decoration in the inaugural competition of the World Cup of combined athletes in Oberstdorf. Lamparter, who had led the cross country race for a long time, had to pay tribute to high speed and finished seventh, just 28 seconds behind. Half a minute behind, Greiderer crossed the finish line in eighth position.

In the final sprint, the exceptional athlete Jarl Magnus Riiber showed his class, the Norwegian winning four tenths ahead of Ilkka Herola (Fin) and nine ahead of his compatriot Jens Luraas Oftebro.

“I wanted to do the race fast, but the others were too strong. I will keep working hard,” said Lamparter, 19, a four-time junior world champion. ÖSV head coach Christoph Eugen was upset that his young protégé was left in the lurch by those established in management work. You could have taken turns there. Due to Riiber’s “passivity”, there were heated discussions with a Norwegian supervisor.

Riiber is now three times world champion, in 2019 in Seefeld he won gold on the normal hill and with the team. “I’m over the moon, but I feel a little sorry for Johannes,” said the 23-year-old. No time to breathe, on Sunday (10am and 3pm, ORF 1) team competition is on the program. The Norwegians and Germans, who did not pass fourth place yesterday (thanks to Eric Frenzel), will be the favorites. The possibility of winning the bronze is absolutely intact.
