In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the federal government announced a further tightening on Thursday. Social contacts will be further restricted throughout Austria; in the future, only ten people will be allowed in private celebrations and indoor events. In gastronomy, the MNS is also mandatory for guests. Consumption is only possible sitting down.
The PC of the Federal Government:
These are the measurements in detail:
The measures will come into effect on Monday (September 21, midnight), according to the federal government, social contacts should be further restricted throughout Austria:
- Restriction for indoor celebrations and events to ten people (except for funerals and religious events, demonstrations, etc., where separate rules apply).
There are more restrictions on night dining:
- The 1:00 am curfew will also apply to closed events in the future
- The federal states can move the curfew further if they deem it necessary.
Mouth and nose protection is extended:
- In the catering industry, mouth and nose protection will also apply to guests when they are not seated. Consumption of food and beverages while standing is no longer allowed until further notice. The guests have to consume seated at the tables.
- In markets and fairs it will be mandatory to wear mouth and nose protection outdoors.
According to Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, the goal is to avoid a second blockade. One of the reasons for the new measures, according to Kurz: “Based on experience and analysis, we know that infections occur mainly in the private sphere: birthday parties, parties or public viewing of football games; everything that we makes happy can be a place of contagion. “The new restrictions are those” that hurt and are a challenge for individual companies such as restaurants. “
Those industries that are now particularly affected by the measures will at least continue to experience the benefits of the lower VAT in 2021.
Praise for the Salzburg Festival
Important events, such as sporting or cultural events, do not have to experience any additional restrictions at the moment. Outdoor events, such as football matches, can be seen by 3000 spectators, indoor concerts can have 1500 spectators. In this context, both Federal Chancellor Kurz and Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler expressly praised the Salzburg Festival, which rigorously implemented a sophisticated prevention concept this summer.
