Breathe a sigh of relief at SV Ried: After five losses in a row, the Innviertel team celebrated a 2-0 win against Hartberg at the Josko-Arena on Saturday night.
After a minute of mourning for the victims of the terrorist attack in Vienna before the start of the game, the Styrian guests clearly set the tone in the opening phase and had good chances. A header in the sixth minute of the game hit the crossbar. Rieder arrived in the 16th minute with the first chance to score. A model Seth Paintsil center headed midfield director Stefan Nutz to make it 1-0. Hartberg’s top striker, Dario Tadic, nearly leveled seconds after Rieder’s first goal. His graduation after a field trip from goalkeeper Samuel Sahin-Radlinger, however, only hit the post. Immediately before the halftime whistle, Tadic was unlucky again. His free kick from about 18 meters hit the crossbar, Sahin-Radlinger would have had no chance. With a very happy 1-0 for Ried he went to rest.

Ried’s coach Gerald Baumgartner’s break speech, who was recently criticized, shouldn’t have lost its effect. The Rieder left the cockpit with great confidence in himself, in the 51st minute it was Nutz again with his head, but this time his attempt failed the door. Immediately after this action, the Innviertler hit 2-0. After a short serve from Hartberg goalkeeper Rene Swete, Paintsil fought for the ball and made it 2-0. The guests only slowly recovered from this serious defensive error, Rieder had a chance for the preliminary decision through Marco Grüll and Stefan Nutz.
From minute 70, the Hartberger rose again with great force. The pressure from the guests increased minute by minute. Several opportunities, including a Thomas Rotter header (76th minute), and a double chance in the 79th minute, were not taken. Hartberger’s final offense brought nothing else, either. The Rieder saved the leadership with commitment and a little luck over time.
With this important victory, the Rieders left the bottom of the table and are now in ninth position.
