LG competes with the new nano IPS monitor

HP has expanded its portfolio of gaming monitors with the new Omen 27i model, which uses LG’s fast nano-IPS panel. You should also inherit the strengths and weaknesses of the LG 27GL850-B that has already been tested. However, there are some differences with this model on the Omen 27i.

The HP Omen 27i with the LG Nano-IPS panel offers a WQHD resolution with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels on a 27-inch diagonal and a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz. It also works with Nvidia graphics cards thanks to G-Sync Compatible. HP mentions 98 percent DCI-P3 color space coverage and 1.7 billion colors in the data sheet. The panel achieves this with a color depth of nearly 10 bits, i.e. 8 native bits and an additional 2 bits using dithering (frame rate control, FRC).

LG and Viewsonic Nano IPS competition

The same nano IPS panel is used in the HP Omen 27i that we already know from the LG 27GL850-B or the Viewsonic XG270QG. There, too, it is advertised with a response time of 1 ms, but this value is only reached at least at maximum overdrive, ensuring a thick ghost effect. With a moderate and medium overdrive, the dashboard is still relatively fast at around 4ms on average, but just under a millisecond, as the marketing claims. Also, TN panels with “1 ms” are still the fastest on average. The HP Omen 27i differs from the LG 27GL850 mainly on the outside and at 165 instead of 144 Hz, which in itself is a slight difference. Viewsonic gives the panel on the XG270QG a native G-Sync module, which recently also supports Freesync and offers the most expensive and most expensive monitor with this panel.

The panel has a weakness on both monitors that have already been tested. The black level increases slightly, so the contrast is somewhat low at 850: 1. Typical for IPS would be a value of around 1,000: 1, so a good panel, like that of Innolux, can also reach 1,200: 1 without being significantly slower in response times.

Asus and AUO attack

Last year, the nano IPS panel was the fastest IPS panel on the market. Meanwhile, AU Optronics has reclaimed the crown with the new AUO M270DAN06.6, which we found on the Asus ROG Strix XG279Q and whose response time is on average less than 3ms, which is almost TN level. However, the WQHD monitor is sinfully expensive at around 900 euros.

HP Omen 27i: moderate price

The HP Omen 27i will launch in North America on May 22 at a fair price of $ 500. Therefore, it competes directly with the LG 27GL850-B, which has a similar price level. It is not yet known when and at what price the Omen 27i appears in this country.

Twins name: various auguries in circulation

Be careful with HP’s sister models, which are almost of the same name, but they have clear differences: the HP Omen X27i is a WQHD monitor with a cheaper IPS panel. The HP Omen X 27, on the other hand, has a TN panel, which offers up to 240 Hz with WQHD.
