With a human chain along Lake Constance, thousands of people demonstrated against Corona’s policy on German Unity Day. The response was much lower than expected: according to estimates by the Constance police, 10,000 to 11,000 protesters participated in the human chain that would unfold on the German coast from Constance to Lindau. The police announced that the number of participants was much lower than the record and much lower than the number that would have been necessary for a complete “chain link”. In the Konstanz area alone, 15,000 people are said to have registered.
The lateral thinking initiative, which is behind the human chain, has been holding meetings for months against measures to contain the corona pandemic.
Don’t just show Corona’s critics
In addition to the human chain, there were 17 other demonstrations in the Lake Constance region. Most of the events, however, were not recorded by critics of the health measures. According to the city, most of the protesters advocated issues such as solidarity, responsibility in times of the Crown crisis, and fighting anti-Semitism.
It is presumed that some of the recorded meetings were canceled due to rainy weather. According to the police, there were no significant incidents.
Other events will take place on Sunday. The requirements of the city of Konstanz this weekend are strict. To guarantee distance rules, organizers must provide four folders for every 50 participants. In addition, imperial war flags, imperial flags and symbols that have a clear reference to the time or crimes of National Socialism are prohibited.
Police report that they have not seen any anti-constitutional symbols.
