From Friday to Saturday, Vienna saw the largest increase in new coronavirus infections to date. 444 cases were registered.
The largest increase in coronavirus infections to date occurred in Vienna from Friday to Saturday. According to the medical crisis team, in 24 hours there was a record increase of 444 cases to a total of 10,655, as confirmed by a spokesman for Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) at the request of the APA.
On the contrary, the number of deaths remains at a low level
However, the number of deaths related to the virus remains at a low level: 229. Two women (77 and 81 years, respectively) and one man (77 years) died. 7,410 people have recovered in Vienna.
A total of 6,803 corona tests were conducted on Friday in the federal capital. The total number increases to 359,186. More recently, the positive test rate has decreased slightly compared to the absolute numbers according to the city council.
Vienna systematically tests all contact persons, thus many asymptomatic ill people are discovered, as underlined. The procedure in March at the absolute rush hour was different, the hacker’s spokesman said. Therefore, current values are difficult to compare with those of the time. Since only people who reported on the health phone were tested at that time, only people with symptoms were included in the statistics. It can be assumed that there were many more cases at that time.
