At around 6:30 pm, the 74-year-old from the Vöcklabruck district drove on the B154 from Scharfling towards Mondsee. At kilometer 24.4 of the road, the car went off to the right of the lane, the car rose over the sidewalk of a parking lot and flew several meters through the air. The car finally came to a stop at an almost dry entrance to the Mondsee, between a bridge parallel to the B154 and the shore of Lake Mondsee.
Two witnesses, a 59-year-old man from Styria and a 64-year-old German, cared for the injured driver until the rescue service arrived. The 74-year-old was airlifted by rescue helicopter to the Salzburg accident hospital.
The impact of the car caused an oil leak, the oil threatened to enter the Mondsee. The fire department recovered the oil contaminated soil.
According to the two witnesses, the car passed within a few meters of several people sitting in the parking lot, but they were unharmed.
