With KNIVES OUT – MORD IST FAMILIENSACHE, a reinterpretation of the classic Agatha Christie thriller, screenwriter and director Rian Johnson (“Star Wars – Episode VIII: The Last Jedi”, “Looper”) demonstrates his ability for an extraordinary genre. Mix
Johnson combines the typical elements of a crime novel with comically exaggerated elements, creating a very unique and perfectly mixed tension that has already thrilled movie audiences around the world. The Academy was also impressed, and at this year’s Oscar® Awards, Johnson received a “Best Original Screenplay” nomination.
The film was also nominated for the “Best Picture – Comedy or Musical” category at the Golden Globes, while Ana de Armas and Daniel Craig received Best Actor nominations. The cult potential of the story surrounding the bizarre case of the casually elegant detective Benoit Blanc is undeniable, because it’s already clear: To be continued!
Oscar®-nominated screenwriter and director Rian Johnson could hardly have won a first-class cast for KNIVES OUT – MORD IST FAMILIENSACHE, especially Daniel Craig (“James Bond 007: Skyfall”, “James Bond 007: Specter”), who is a teacher in the role of southern detective Benoit Blanc. Eccentric members of the Thrombey family are also played by actors like Jamie Lee Curtis (“Halloween”), Toni Colette (“Little Miss Sunshine”), Michael Shannon (“The Shape of Water”), Chris Evans (“Avengers: Endgame “) and Don Johnson (” Book Club “) embodied. Family patriarch and crime writer Harlan Thrombey is played by Oscar®-winning Christopher Plummer. Exceptional talent Ana de Armas (“Blade Runner 2049”) convinces Marta as Harlan’s nurse and loyal soul.
About the film: Harlan Thrombey is dead! And not only that: the famous crime writer and family patriarch was killed in celebration of his 85th birthday. But of course, neither the reunited eccentric relatives nor the loyal housewives want to have seen anything. A case for Benoit Blanc! The casually elegant commissioner begins his investigation and, although all the guests present are anything but cooperative, the situation escalates and mistrust between them grows. A complex web of lies, wrong clues, and diversionary maneuvers must be revised to reveal the truth behind Thrombey’s untimely death.
