Karl-Heinz Grasser: “I only have family left”

The judge has ordered that you, Walter Meischberger and Ernst Karl Plech, as well as Peter Hochegger, have to reimburse the BUWOG commission of 9.6 million to the federal government. Now he had more than two million euros in litigation and legal costs. If this judgment becomes final, will you file for personal bankruptcy?

I think personal bankruptcy will not take three years, it will come much earlier. This process ruined my existence anyway, and with this trial I have a total loss: reputation is ruined, reputation is stolen, honor is cut off. This error in judgment portrays me as a criminal who is in prison for eight years. These are severe blows to the pit of the stomach. The only thing I have left is the family, my children and my wife and the solidarity that gives me the strength to fight this trial. That also gives me the strength to continue to believe in the rule of law.

What did your wife say about the trial?

Fortunately, she is a strong and very brave woman. She encouraged me to keep fighting because it’s about decency and honor.
