World ski flying champion Karl Geiger secured victory at the start of the tour ahead of Kamil Stoch and Marius Lindvik. As the best Austrian, Stefan Kraft got a good sixth place.
For the first time in the history of the Four Hills Tournament, it started today in Oberstdorf without a spectator. On the other hand, there was the team from Poland, which was allowed to compete after negative corona tests. However, this increased the starting field in the first round and the knockout duels were canceled.
The Austrians performed very well in the first round. Philipp Aschenwald qualified third, Stefan Kraft finished fifth with his jump and Jan Hörl tackled the second race from seventh. In the second round, however, Michael Hayböck and Markus Schiffner weren’t there. The big favorite Halvor Egner Granerud did not go beyond ninth place. Germany’s Markus Eisenbichler even had to be satisfied with 27th place. After the first jump, world ski-flying champion Karl Geiger was in the lead ahead of Marius Lindvik.
Power still good on the run
In the second round, co-favorite Eisenbichler improved his position by jumping 142 meters and finally came in fifth place. The only serial winner, Granerud, was able to replace the German at the top. Jan Hörl did not come close to the Norwegian’s distance and was finally 11th. Stefan Kraft also did not reach the necessary distance, but he finished the first jump in strong sixth place.
After Stoch took the lead, Aschenwald couldn’t keep up with the higher jumps. The winner of the ranking fell back to eighth place. In the end, Karl Geiger won ahead of Kamil Stoch and Marius Lundvik.
