After winning the Carinthian Derby against Villach on Friday, the KAC will meet with the ICE leader in Salzburg on Sunday.

THE KEY DATA:
In their sixth game of the season in the ICE Hockey League with home betting, EC-KAC will face current leader of the table, EC Salzburg, away from home on Sunday afternoon (start of the game: 4.30pm ). This encounter is streamed live as a free online video feed on the hosts’ website (ecrbs.redbulls.com/livestream), so the ticker on kac.at is not available. As usual Radio Kärnten also reports directly from the room as part of the Carinthian ice hockey magazine.
START POINT:
With their first win in the third home game of the season, a 3-1 win in the Carinthian derby against EC VSV on Friday night, EC-KAC climbed to third place in the table. In the current season, the Klagenfurt team won the two games played abroad, in Dornbirner EC they won 3-1, in Fehérvár AV19 4-1. During the preseason, the Red Vests faced EC Salzburg: EC-KAC won 4-0 in the Red Bulls Salute Invitational tournament in Kitzbühel three weeks ago, but the people of Mozart City lacked a few regulars in this meeting. EC Salzburg got off to an excellent start to the new season, the Red Bulls have yet to give up a point in their previous three games and are therefore perfectly at the top of the ICE table. In front of their own audience, Salzburg gave EC VSV (6: 1) and Bratislava Capitals (5: 1) no chance, on Friday they finally won their first away game: despite being twice behind, they managed a 6: 3 hit at Black Wings 1992. The league’s peat factory (5.67 hits per season game) so far has been brilliant offensively, and the Bulls have already been able to write six times in power play in three matches.

THE GAME NUMBERS:
1 – Dennis Sticha scored his first goal for the EC-KAC wrestling team in the Carinthian derby on Friday. He made his 15th league game, the seventh, in which he also received Ice Age. Overall, at the time of his first goal, he had 39:50 minutes of ice time (in 56 at-bats) in the first division.
1.82 – Goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm delivered convincing performances on his first five ICE missions for the EC-KAC. His average goals conceded (GAA) is currently 1.82, and when it comes to save percentage, he jumped the 94 percent mark in each of the four most recent games. Overall, the Dane saved 94.61 percent of shots on goal in his area this year.
3- In the first five games of the season, EC-KAC faced a total of 27 outnumbered situations and conceded just three goals.
This results in a penalty kill success rate of a good 88.9 percent. In a simple minority, this value is even 95.8 percent, because two of the three losing goals were the result of “three against five” inferiorities.
64.0 – After five games this season, player Michael Kernberger has by far the best Corsi-For-Percentage of all KAC defenders – 64.0 percent of goal attempts by both teams while on the ice it came from the CE-KAC and not from the opponent. The 23-year-old has yet to concede a goal on ice (89:32 total time-oc-ice).
139 – Sunday’s game is the 139th overall between EC Salzburg and EC-KAC in the top division; Rotjacken have faced no other opponents since the league was reinstated in 2000. With 76:62 wins and 453: 399 goals, the all-time record speaks for the bulls.

THE OPPONENT:
EC Salzburg was by far the most successful club of the EBEL era ending in the summer: Salzburg won 61.1 percent of its 1,034 matches in this competition, averaging 1.81 points per game. The Red Bulls also got off to an excellent start to the new era of the ICE Hockey League of home betting, which currently leads the table with 9: 0 points and 17: 5 goals.

Head coach Matt McIlvane’s team is very strong in all parts of the team. With great league leader Rick Schofield on offense and NHL experience Taylor Chorney on defense, the Legionnaire segment grew even stronger in the summer. Two very talented talents from Germany are currently available on loan from partner club Munich: Justin Schütz (20) was selected by the Florida Panthers in 2018, John-Jason Peterka (18) barely missed the round in this year’s draft during the week. One more, his rights assured in position 34 of the Buffalo Sabers.

Around longtime mainstays Thomas Raffl, Alexander Rauchwald, Dominique Heinrich and John Hughes, the Bulls have what is probably the deepest team in the league. The coaching staff knows how to transfer these qualities on paper to ice, last season the winning percentage (70.6 percent) was for the third time in the club’s history (after 2006/07 and 2014/15) beyond the 70 Percentage mark.

The matches between EC Salzburg and EC-KAC have been one of the most explosive and attractive pairs in the league for a decade and a half. Equipped with a home advantage, the Mozartstadt residents generally prevailed, with only 14 of their 69 Volksgarten appearances to date the Red Jackets winning in regulation time, in another nine after overtime or penalty shoot-out. More recently, however, the two teams met for the most part at eye level: of the six clashes that took place on the Salzburg ice in the past two seasons, both teams won three apiece.

THE STAFF:
With the exception of long-term injuries to David Fischer and Steven Strong, all players on the team are available at the EC-KAC. The coaching staff will only decide what the final lineup will look like on the Sunday after the AHL game on Saturday night or the morning skating on game day. At least one line-up change is planned from Friday’s Carinthian derby: David Madlener will make his Salzburg debut between the posts.

THE COMMENT:
“We weren’t able to use our full potential in the first four games of the season, but winning the derby on Friday was progress and morally very important for us as a team. With Salzburg, one of the strongest teams in the league now awaits us as an opponent. You act very powerful, you interrupt the preparation of the game with intensive pre-control, you play a lot in the body. If we achieve our level on the ice for more than 60 minutes, we will surely also have the opportunity to score points in this match. “(Clemens Unterweger, EC-KAC defender)
