Voluntary resignation? Jogi Löw did not have this idea even after the 6-0 draw against Spain.
He currently sees no reason for a purely radical course change, the DFB national coach makes clear after discussions about himself.
“There is no reason to throw it all away,” emphasizes the 60-year-old, who has led the German team since 2006. He is aware of being criticized as a coach. But he also knows how to deal with criticism.
Löw admits, however, that “in 2020 development will stop.” However, he points out that there has been a long hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. The ME next summer is the deciding factor. Your team wants to play the “best possible” final. “We want to go as far as possible, reach the final, win the tournament,” emphasizes Löw.
DFB? “That disappointed me immensely”
In his remarks, he makes public his great disappointment about how the German Football Association acted after the match against Spain. “There was a press release saying that the coach needed emotional distance,” says Löw: “That was incomprehensible to me because I don’t need emotional distance.”
He was very upset that the content of internal discussions with the DFB had reached the public in recent days: “That was a great disappointment for me personally.”
A week ago, almost two weeks after the Seville game, the DFB announced that Löw would remain the national coach.
