In the end it was a matter of nerves. And of courage. Because in the tie break of the third set of the final of the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Sofia, Jannik Sinner was the player who first sought the initiative in rallies. Sinner was rewarded for this after 2:14 hours of play. Vasek Pospisil, for his part, has to wait for his first single title on the tour – the Canadian also lost his third final.
After winning the first set, Sinner managed to break again at the beginning of the second round. The teenager from South Tyrol had to resign from his service immediately, suddenly Pospisil was the boss in the ring. After calling, the veteran couldn’t take two chances to break early in the decision. In the tie-break, Sinner allowed nothing on his own serve and got the necessary mini-breaks.
With the success in Sofia, Jannik Sinner will also reach a new record in the ATP world rankings: on Monday he will be ranked 37th.
