Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) has shown to be satisfied with the course of corona mass tests so far. He was not surprised that there were some technical problems, the head of government said in the ORF ZiB special on Friday night in view of the project’s scale. Ultimately, it was possible to handle testing everywhere in such a way that participants were not affected.
Special Eulogy from the Chancellor of Vienna
There were rare special praise from the Chancellor of Vienna, where, as a metropolis with a population of millions, organizing is more difficult, but “it worked very well.” Of course, it was also recognized that there was no problem at Vorarlberg, which organizes the tests more or less independently.
Kurz assured that it would not be the last test. The Chancellor indicated a replay, not wanting to commit to a date. The Chancellor also provided specific tests for groups that have many contacts, such as school personnel. Kurz put a third as “decent participation”, but more participants would be better.
The Chancellor sees room for improvement in the group of older people. In those older than 85 years, the incidence of cases is twice as high as in the general population. This is about presentations in nursing homes.
First day of mass testing in Vienna, Vorarlberg and Tirol
In Vienna I’ve been doing it so far 112 infections diagnosed with the coronavirus, which is less than 0.5 percent of the around 24,000 tests performed. In Tirol the proportion of positive tests was around 0.3 percent – 202 of 76,197 tests were positive. Vorarlberg reported 52,142 tests taken 192 positive results, so 0.37 percent of the tests were positive.
Vienna
In the federal capital, the beginning was not without problems, at least with regard to computer systems. This will also lead to a lower capacity overall. The day began with a failure in the IT recording system used by the military on all three test streets. It was necessary to switch to paper operation immediately. In other words: Participant data is recorded using forms and only later transferred to the system. This had no effect on the people who will be tested, as was repeatedly emphasized on Friday.
The 112 people whose results were positive in the rapid test underwent a PCR test carried out by the health authorities of Vienna in the testing centers.
Tirol
In Tyrol, Governor Günther Platter (ÖVP) was delighted with the number of participants. “We have already received very good feedback that the processes on the site are working perfectly and that in many places the joint and determined fight against the coronavirus can really be felt. I would like to thank everyone who reviewed their Covid status today. – all of you helped thereby contributing to sustainably reduce the number of corona infections in Tyrol, “said the national director. Platter spoke of a “smooth process”.
Vorarlberg
In the “Ländle”, 192 of the 52,142 tests were positive. Governor Markus Wallner and Provincial Councilor Christian Gantner (both ÖVP) were satisfied and appealed to the undecided to participate in the tests for the next two days. Wallner said that a significant contribution to public health can be made in a matter of minutes. In Vorarlberg, 80 stations in 43 communities are available for testing, around 1,600 people are deployed for this.
