Opening restrictions for Vienna’s Buschenschanken have been lifted this year. The Heurigen season, which otherwise only lasts until the end of October, has been extended.
There is still a lot of stoppage in the catering sector. This will change from May 15 when the bars can be opened again. In the federal capital of Vienna, a special regulation has even been created for a certain snack stop: for Buschenschanken. It can open this year and every day until the end of the year, as announced by the office of the responsible councilor Ulli Sima (SPÖ).
Otherwise this is not the case. Under the Vienna Buschenschank Law, companies are normally only allowed to open from mid-April to the end of October, and only from Friday to Sunday or on holidays. Now they have responded to the request of small winegrowers, he said. Hospitality is permitted daily beginning May 15. And exceptionally, the Buschenschanken can also offer local wines and delicacies until the end of the year.
“Viennese wine, taverns and taverns have always shaped our city and the Viennese lifestyle. We want to support Viennese winemakers in these difficult times with this exception,” said Sima. The exemption applies until December 31, 2020, after which the original Buschenschank Law re-enters into force.
