Two important members of the German government must go into quarantine due to corona cases in their neighborhood. After Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, Economy Minister Peter Altmaier announced on Wednesday night that he had to conduct his official business from home. The reason is “that an employee of an EU minister who was present at the Council of Trade Ministers in Berlin tested positive for Corona,” the CDU politician said on Twitter in the evening.
“As a precaution, I went to quarantine at home. On Friday I tested negative and I’m fine,” he continued. On Sunday and Monday, Altmaier organized the meeting of EU trade ministers in Berlin and highlighted the strict crown requirements for the meeting. As a precautionary measure, the CDU minister took a test on Friday to ensure that, as host, he would not infect guests from the 27 EU countries and Brussels. Of the guests, on the other hand, only those who came to Berlin from a risk zone had to be screened before their arrival.
The Foreign Ministry had previously announced on Wednesday that SPD politician Maas had entered quarantine because one of his bodyguards was infected with the virus. Therefore, Maas has to cancel his planned trip to Jordan. A first corona test at Maas on Wednesday was negative, a spokeswoman said.
