„Es hat sicher Fehleinschätzungen und Fehler gegeben”, räumte Gesundheitslandesrat Tilg ein. Seinerzeit hatte er mit seiner Aussage, die Behörden hätten „alles richtig gemacht” für Kritik gesorgt.

Innsbruck – The Ischgl expert commission report triggered a general debate in the Tyrolean state parliament that was not overly heated on Friday. He stayed with the usual positions. ÖVP-LH Günther Platter did not see in the “good report” any bad testimony for the state and the authorities and instead spoke of “courageous decisions”. The assembled opposition, on the other hand, identified a “debacle”, as well as a lack of understanding of the mistakes and a culture of resignation.
Platter devoted only a relatively small part of his speech to the Ischgl cause. The governor also discussed the current situation of the crown in Tyrol and the measures to be taken currently. He reiterated the findings of the commission, chaired by former Supreme Court Vice President Ronald Rohrer, that there had been “errors in judgment and professional decisions.” The ski season ended prematurely. In any case, the “recommendations” will be taken seriously, Platter said, referring once again to the structural measures taken on Tuesday.
At the same time, Platter appealed to the federal government to issue a new epidemic law. Something that was also urged in the report. In this regard, Tirol will also approach the federal government. Furthermore, Platter once again urged all parties in the state parliament to close ranks, declaring: “Let’s stop blaming Ischgl and Tyrol for the pandemic.”
Tilg admitted mistakes, Dornauer apologized
Health advisor Bernhard Tilg (ÖVP), who was criticized during the course of crisis management, also spoke. “Certainly there have been errors of judgment and mistakes,” admitted Tilg, who at the time drew criticism with his statement that the authorities “had done everything right.” At the same time, Tilg recalled the enormous amount of work in the Tyrolean crisis team in the days of March – a “bad time”. He was mainly concerned with taking care of health and ensuring hospital care. That kept the agendas regarding the implementation of the Epidemic Law, was “legally compliant” due to the immense challenges. However, the Rohrer Commission saw it differently.
„Entschuldigt Euch”, forderte Dornauer die Landesregierung zu Worten des Bedauerns an die “tausenden” Infizierten auf.

The Tyrolean head of the SPÖ, Georg Dornauer, launched strong attacks on Platter and Tilg because of Ischgl: “The commission put the facts clearly on the table. It’s a debacle. “The resulting loss of confidence is the” historic merit “of the black-green state government. Dornauer once again called for the resignation of Tilg, state medical director Franz Katzgraber and state public relations chief Florian. Kurzthaler: Tilg had shed his responsibility in the biggest crisis: “Who needs these politicians and why do we pay them?” This state government “has no genius,” said Dornauer.
SPÖ and FPÖ criticize “lack of culture of resignation”
FPÖ President Markus Abwerzger was a little less aggressive, but still critical. “The report is not a guilty verdict, but it is not an acquittal either,” he said and, like Dornauer, criticized the lack of a culture of resignation. It was “about human lives,” Abwerzger said. In the run-up to the outbreak of the pandemic, as early as February, the state or state medical services “minimized” the risk of viruses, said the head of the FPÖ, who also criticized the country’s communications policy. “said Abwerzger. The head of the blue club also went to court with Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) due to his press conference, in which the quarantine on the Paznaun Valley and St. Anton was announced in advance. It is about a “fearful chancellor” or “chancellor of the show”, who constantly spread panic and made fables of hundreds of thousands of possible deaths by crown in Austria and mountains of coffins.
List Fritz sees “no acquittal or guilty verdict”
List Fritz-LAbg also did not forgive the state government. Markus Sint. “The damage has occurred and is done. The commission’s report is not an acquittal or guilty verdict, but it is also not suitable for a release,” he said, especially in the leadership of the ÖVP parliamentary group. Experts would point to a “failure of many in an exceptional situation”, including Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) and Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens).
For example, at the press conference on March 13, Kurz announced a quarantine for the affected areas, and without giving any clear guidelines. At the same time, Sint identified a “multiple failure” on the part of Health Councilor Tilg and the Landeck district administration. The latter failed by allowing the “Kitzloch” bar to reopen on short notice. The first by “yielding” the responsibility of the director of the state office and his political responsibility for the state medical direction.
But even Governor Platter did not leave Fritz’s list of politicians out of the lottery. The latter ended the winter season a few days late, failed in its control task before the district administrative authorities and was responsible for the publication of false press releases. “You have the ultimate and general responsibility,” Sint said to Platter. Mistakes can be made, says Sint, but: “The real problem is denying and ignoring the mistakes made.” The politician did not believe that there was no pressure on politicians in the tourism industry, as stated in the Rohrer report. This is a “misinterpretation”. This was done subtly, but clearly not through official documents or email correspondence.
NEOS wants to shed more light on the role of the federal government
Chancellor Kurz also took aim at the president of the NEOS club, Dominik Oberhofer. The “first class panic chancellor” had called for a quarantine for Ischgl and company over the heads of those responsible in Tyrol, thus causing chaos. He therefore advocates, like the federal NEOS, that the commission should once again address the role of the federal government in detail. But Oberhofer also saw serious shortcomings in the country. “Public relations did everything wrong,” the president of the pink club alluded to alleged false information about the danger of contagion in après-ski bars.
The city of Ischgl itself has to face the “question of blame”. After all, after no fewer cases were known, some of the celebrations continued in the bars. “Corona parties” were organized. Oberhofer also called for a “round table”. The federal and state heads of government would have to sit with the victims.
Green club president Mair apologizes for mistakes
Greens club president Gebi Mair saw a balanced report: the speed and quality with which it was written was amazing. “I agree with the analysis in it,” he said, referring to the list of mistakes and things that were done well. Furthermore, Mair began to apologize: “There have been mistakes. I would like to apologize for my own mistakes and also for the mistakes of others who cannot apologize.”
“We are sorry that many have been infected,” ÖVP club president Jakob Wolf said a bit. Those affected “were not intentionally infected.” All those responsible would have given their best in an extraordinary situation. In a situation like that, you couldn’t possibly do everything right. The Health Advisor Tilg would no longer say “in this life” that everything had been done well. There have also been errors of judgment on the part of the experts, but this affects half of Europe. “The report has lights and shadows,” Wolf said. In any case, one thing has become clear: that people’s health was not endangered in Tyrol because of greed for profit. The expert commission clearly judged this. (WHAT, TT.com)
