Rumors of a second lockdown in Austria are hotly debated.

For about two weeks, rumors of a second lockdown due to the increase in coronavirus infections have been much discussed. The government denies that, according to the Minister of Health, Anschober, “the measures are in the drawer.”
Currently, the focus is on “regional measures”, stressed on Friday Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) at a press conference. However, it has “several measures in the drawer.” He declined to comment on possible school closings or extension of the fall break.
Coronavirus infections are increasing in Austria
Anchober did not say what measures the government had in place. “I can’t and don’t want to open this drawer,” he said rather. However, there are scenarios for dynamic developments.
“Soft lock” in November?
Hans Bürger, head of the internal policy editorial team at ZIB, commented on current rumors of a “soft lockdown” on Saturday night at ORF. This could very well take place on November 2 or 16 for two or three weeks. “At least for the moment, this is becoming apparent,” says Hans Bürger at ZIB 1.
The measures would include, among other things, restrictions on private celebrations or early curfew. Obviously they wanted to wait for the Vienna elections.
