As VOL.AT has learned from well-informed circles, the Dornbirn city hospital is fully booked in the intensive care area as of today Sunday. Now the regional hospitals in Vorarlberg are helping. Mayor Andrea Kaufmann confirms this in an interview with VOL.AT. “We have eight beds in the intensive care unit and half of them are occupied by Covid 19 patients,” says Kaufmann. “Also, we have 15 more Covid patients and 11 more suspicious cases in the normal room. We will now clean the entire seventh floor for Covid-19 patients,” Kaufmann said.

In the hospitals of the hospital operating company, 22 of the 51 intensive care beds are currently occupied with Covid 19 patients, eight more with people with other diseases. The situation is still under control because the situation can change every hour, even for the better. This means that there are still 21 intensive care beds available in Vorarlberg.

Up to 100 intensive care beds – a possible increase

As LH Markus Wallner said on Saturday, in an emergency, you can add up to 100 intensive care beds. The Governor of Vorarlberg urgently warned of the increase in numbers and urged the population: “The situation is really serious. We have to act, and now! I know that many of us are now feeling a certain pandemic fatigue, but we still need the help of the population, “Wallner said.

Increase: preparations are ongoing

As VOL.AT has learned from the regional districts, internal preparations are already underway in the background to increase the capacity of the intensive care beds. Also for the mayor of Dornbirn, Andrea Kaufmann, a step that is inevitable. “It definitely has to increase because Covid-19 patients are in the intensive care unit for a relatively long time and there are no fluctuations,” he stated in the VOL.AT conversation.

Alarming numbers

LH Markus Wallner referred to the alarming figures on Saturday and calculated that the capacity limit for intensive care beds in Vorarlberg could be reached in mid-November. A situation that you want to prevent at all costs in Vorarlberg. “The more and better we adhere to the measures, the faster we will be able to lift the restrictions and the more we will help our health system. Therefore, I ask for consideration, determination and perseverance,” appeals the governor of Vorarlberg.
