Fraudulent emails with the subject “Notification from FinanzOnline” contain the information that the recipient will receive a tax refund of 1,850 euros and must approve a transaction for this purpose. The BMF continually warns of this fraud.

Scammers pretend to be tax officials
The included hyperlink leads to a fake FinanzOnline-style website, which asks you to enter personal data.
Internet scammers are also known to have contacted citizens in the past by phone and SMS. The scammers pretended to be tax officials and tried to trick those affected into giving their personal account details.
The Federal Ministry of Finance emphasizes that this is an attempt at fraud on the Internet and that both the emails sent and the Internet portal linked to it are forgeries.
BMF information is generally presented in the form of notices and is sent by post or in the FinanzOnline Databox. The BMF never asks citizens to submit personal data such as passwords, credit card details or account information.
