The weekly traffic light commission meeting will begin shortly. How “Today” learned, 24 regions could already be set to red at night.
The districts of Wels (Upper Austria), Hallein in Tennengau, and Innsbruck in Salzburg, as well as Innsbruck-Land in Tyrol, are already glowing bright red. Due to the massive increase in incidents, the crown traffic light has been changed to the highest “very high risk” level.
At the Crown Commission meeting on Thursday, other districts could now be threatened with a red shift. How “Today” could find out, this time a huge number of districts will be up for discussion. These are:
Burgenland
► Neusiedl / See
Lower Austria
► St. Pölten (city)
► Amstetten
► Bruck / Leitha
► Modling
► Tulln
Upper Austria:
► Gmunden
► Grieskirchen
► Ried
► Rohrbach
► Schärding
► Vöcklabruck
Salzburg
► Salzburg area
► St. Johann im Pogau
► Zell am See
Steiermark
► Leoben
► Voitsberg
Tirol
► Imst
► Landeck
► Schwaz
Vorarlberg
► Rheinstein-Walgau region
The Hallein district, already red in color, according to yesterday’s Wednesday figures, with a 7-day incidence of 468.7 positive tests per 100,000 inhabitants, continues to be the access point of the Austrian crown. No other city or district comes close. But an escalation of the pandemic, such as in the Kuchl quarantine site, must be avoided throughout Austria.
Therefore, in addition to the four red districts so far, another 20 districts and the Vorarlberg Rheinstein-Walgau region (Feldkirch, Dornbirn) are now under discussion. In the regions to be examined, the incidence value is currently between 150 and 280 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days.
Anschober informs about the new traffic light change
Of course, the 7-day number of incidents alone is not the sole basis for the expert commission’s decision. Factors such as the risk of spread, the usability of the local health system, and the effectiveness of contact tracing and clarifying the chain of infection also play a role.
The decision will be made this Thursday night. Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) has already announced a press conference for tomorrow Friday. From 11 am he wants to inform the spokesperson of the Crown Commission, Daniela Schmid, about the current traffic light change.
