At the EU summit in Brussels, Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz made clear that a second blockade in Austria “must absolutely be avoided.”
EU countries have once again promised to work even more closely on the Crown crisis. “We have to strengthen our overall coordination to deal with Covid-19,” Council President Charles Michel said at the end of the two-day EU summit in Brussels on Friday.
And Chancellor Sebastian Kurz also called for more uniformity after the EU deliberations on better cooperation against the pandemic. The vice president made it clear that there must be uniform rules for travel, for example. Summer had already shown that “tourism is possible.” Appropriate concepts are a prerequisite for this.
Kurz also stressed that a second lockdown in Austria must be avoided at all costs. “There are already massive restrictions in other states with conditions similar to those of a lockdown. We want to avoid a second lockdown in Austria,” the chancellor tweeted on Friday.
“Infections occur in the private sphere”
And further: “Hence my urgent request to the Austrians, let’s help together. The problem is the same everywhere: infections occur in a private environment, where one feels especially safe.” Austria must keep the number of infections low, especially in the coming months, which, according to Kurz, “will be very tough and demanding.”
In summary: “The more infections there are, the more collapse in consumption and the greater massive economic damage.” The Chancellor looks confidently to the future and writes: “Next summer there will be light again at the end of the tunnel.”
