While stating that the institute has nothing to do with the ÖVP and rejects any connection to gambling groups, opposition parties suspect that Sobotka was involved in the appointment of the board of directors around Peter Sidlo; after all, he has met several times with the head of Novomatic, Johann Graf, and already as Lower Austria’s state financial council is concerned with the gambling company.
Bernhard Krumpel represents a personal connection in this regard. Krumpel was a press spokesperson for Sobotka in the late 1990s and most recently served as a spokesperson for the Novomatic Group. To clarify his role and that of Sobotka, Krumpel is also invited to provide information today.
Excitement for the Ibiza video
The handover of the so-called Ibiza video to committee members caused a stir in the run-up to the start of the U-Committee after the summer break on Tuesday. Their timing was not accidental, believes the opposition. The SPÖ, FPÖ and Neos put forward a remarkable thesis: to divert attention from Sobotka’s interrogation, the chief prosecutor or justice minister, Alma Zadic, delivered the video to Committee U a day before Sobotka’s interrogation.
As proof of this, the opposition applies the fact that the files are generally always delivered at the end of the month. But not this time.
The ÖVP sees this statement as a rather crude thesis.
