Edi Potsch was in the right place at the right time on Saturday afternoon. He was there when a driver was unable to get out of his burning car.
“My partner and I were walking when a friend came to us in the car and honked the horn. I raised my hand to wave when I saw a car driver coming,” says Edi Potsch by phone.
The driver lost control of the car and touched two steel supports in a parking lot and two road bollards. Finally, he drove a few hundred meters more until he reached the opposite lane in a long right turn and collided with the car of a 56-year-old man from the Linz-Land district: he was an acquaintance of Edi Potsch.
Lenker wanted to break free, then passed out
Then the 26-year-old car overturned and remained on the roof. Soon after, the car started to burn in the engine compartment. Edi Potsch did not think much. “While Angela was taking care of our acquaintance, I was with a young cyclist next to the driver of the car,” says Potsch. “Today”.
The 71-year-old man deftly pushed the handlebar through the smashed side window of the passenger door. It is not an easy thing since the car was on the roof and the flames were extinguished. The 26-year-old still wanted to break free of the vehicle, but then passed out. And quite a long time. The man is said to have been unconscious for about 10 minutes.
“The young cyclist is the true hero”
Edi Potsch does not see himself as a lifeguard: “I have seen so much in my life as a firefighter that it was no longer dramatic for me. But of course every accident is bad. But it was absolutely clear that he would not look the other way but it helps. ”
Rather heroic was the evident help of the young cyclist, who stayed with the injured person until the rescue arrived. “Unfortunately, she left quickly after the emergency services were there, she couldn’t thank her for the great help,” said Potsch.
It is unclear why the accident driver got into this situation. He is said to have been involved in an accident before. Now, by order of the prosecution, his blood is examined.
