Brown believes: Vettel stops!
Zak Brown is also among those who believe Sebastian Vettel will retire. “It doesn’t seem like Mercedes and Red Bull are a possibility for him. There is no possibility at McLaren, nor at Ferrari, so Renault is the best option,” said McLaren’s managing director.
But he has doubts about whether Vettel wants to lead a team that is unlikely to win any race in 2021.
“They are a great team and they should keep moving forward, but if Seb doesn’t want to start again with a team on the way, he will probably leave the sport.”
Reader Question: What Happens at Haas, Alfa Romeo, and AlphaTauri?
Our reader Leon would like to take a look at the cabins that are not currently focused: Haas, Alfa Romeo and AlphaTauri. Officially, neither team has occupied a booth by 2021. The possibilities are diverse.
Alfa Romeo: Is Kimi Raikkonen finishing his career or not? The Finn is already 40 years old and is therefore always associated with a resignation. More recently, however, he said he was still having fun. To be able to hang up a bit again.
The second cabin can be assigned to Ferrari as a motor partner. Antonio Giovinazzi is currently the option and he also has the confidence of Mattia Binotto (see entry below). If he beats Kimi 2020, his chances are good, otherwise some Formula 2 candidates are waiting for his chance.
Ferrari has placed five (!) Drivers in Formula 2: Robert Schwarzman, Marcus Armstrong, Callum Ilott, Giuliano Alesi and, of course, Mick Schumacher. Whoever does his best could become a laughing climber.
AlphaTauri: Daniil Kvyat’s time is running out. Very few believe he will have another shot at Red Bull. If in doubt, it could be replaced. Alexander Albon and Pierre Gasly should fight for the Red Bull cabin in 2021, the loser drives AlphaTauri.
Who drives with him must depend on the junior program. In Formula 2, Force India alumnus Jehan Daruvala, who was taken over by Red Bull in 2020, drives. Returnees Sergio Sette Camara and Jüri Vips, who drive in the Japanese Super Formula, may have better opportunities. The title there could be the ticket to Formula 1.
Haas The question is probably the most open one there. Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean have been counted multiple times, but were still allowed to keep their place. Another bad year should mean the end for both of them.
The two reserve drivers Louis Deletraz and Pietro Fittipaldi are only considered strangers. Maybe someone who isn’t expecting him right now will end up there.
But the question also applies here if Haas remains in Formula 1.
Binotto: Ferrari too early for Giovinazzi
Antonio Giovinazzi was also considered one of the candidates for the Ferrari job, but the opportunity was too early for the Italian, says team boss Mattia Binotto.
“He had his first season in Formula 1 last year. And switching to Ferrari after just one year is too much responsibility,” said the Italian.
However, it should not be forgotten that Leclerc also came to Ferrari after a year at Sauber / Alfa Romeo. But you have to be honest because the Monegasse also made the most impression. And two drivers with no team experience might not be the best idea for Ferrari.
But Binotto keeps the door open for Giovinazzi: “You must keep your head up. We are building on your growth and we will help you. It is part of our plans, but you need to gain even more experience in Formula One.”

Binotto: no longer has the same goals as Vettel
There is much speculation about what led to the separation of Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari. Certainly, there is no one particular reason that ultimately made a difference. Team boss Mattia Binotto spoke to Vettel again yesterday in Geneva.
“We discovered that we no longer share the same goals, in the short and long term,” said the Italian, convinced that separation is the right step.
Binotto continues: “I admire Sebastián. I admire him as a person and as a professional driver. I have great respect for him. But the world has also changed, not only economically, but also technically and athletically.”
“We have difficult challenges and obstacles ahead. We are laying the foundation for our future and we want a specific perspective.” And that without Vettel.

Silverstone agrees two races with Formula 1
There is a common thread to the day, and something always comes up 🙂 We hear from Silverstone that the organizers have agreed with Formula 1 to organize two races this summer, naturally as a phantom race.
“I am pleased to confirm that Silverstone and Formula 1 have signed an agreement in principle to hold two closed-door races this summer,” Silverstone boss Stuart Pringle told Motorsport-Total.com.
“However, government approval is still needed because the safety of everyone involved and strict compliance with COVID 19 rules are top priorities.”
The races are likely to take place on July 26 and August 2. That would leave a gap on the original date (July 19) after two races are scheduled in Austria.
Ferrari and the Vettel earthquake
“A new cycle” should start at Ferrari. That’s what Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto said yesterday about his new driver pairing Charles Leclerc / Carlos Sainz. Sebastian Vettel’s era ends in 2020 after six years together, and probably without a world title, even if he still has a chance this year.
Of course, many now wonder what happens to Sebastian Vettel. Fans are very hopeful that the German Mercedes can join. However, it is highly likely that Vettel will exit Formula 1 entirely. I really don’t have to say much about why.
Our editor-in-chief Christian Nimmervoll has already done so in his column. You will find all the information there! And there is nothing more to add.
Senna’s bitter hour
No, no viewer was to blame and neither was the FIA. Senna himself was responsible for his failure in Monaco in 1988. Driving around 50 seconds before the sure victory, he crashed into the railing on lap 67 at the Portier curve. The reason for his retirement: he was simply out of focus.
That should have had a big impact on the ambitious Brazilian, especially since top competitor Alain Prost won the race at the time.

Max Verstappen’s first victory
Back then, Max Verstappen had his first Formula 1 victory, in the first race for Red Bull. What a story! At that time, Verstappen set a record that could be held for a time and is almost impossible to break.
Because at 18 years, seven months and 15 days he has been the youngest Grand Prix winner in history. And because you must be at least 18 years old to drive in Formula 1, it will be difficult to break. Because you really should start at 18 and win in the first half of the season, and then be lucky enough to have a birthday at the right time.

Meanwhile: good memories …
… for all non-Mercedes fans. Four years ago today there was the famous accident between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton in the first round in Barcelona.
Rosberg had won the first four races and was also at the forefront in Spain. Approaching Turn 4, Rosberg pushed his attacking partner onto the grass. Control lost and then whispered in Rosberg.
Both Mercedes were outside and had to hear a real kettledrum. The way was clear for another …
Test question 2
So, let’s move on to the next round of questionnaires. The first one was special this morning, but let’s see if you know:
On May 15, 1988, Ayrton Senna led to a sure victory in Monaco until …
a) … a spectator ran towards the road
b) … a person who must be lapped will not let it pass
c) … was disqualified at the request of the FIA President
d) … built an accident due to lack of concentration
The resolution will follow shortly at this point.
Renault’s future is unclear
The biggest question is whether Renault will continue in Formula 1. Even without the crown crisis, the project was tested internally because the expected success did not materialize. The year 2020 was a setback with many negative headlines, and motor customers would no longer be in 2021 either.
New managing director Clotilde Delbos announced in October that she would test all of the group’s activities, including the Formula 1 team.
The situation has not improved since then. The company even announced in April that it would take out billions in government loans. Is a millionaire Formula 1 project and possibly even a pilot like Fernando Alonso justified with mega content?
Renault: Why would a junior make sense?
Even at the risk that some of you might not like it, choosing a driver from Renault’s youth program would actually make sense. Just by looking at the money, a junior of yours would certainly be cheaper than an old Formula 1 star.
In addition, Cyril Abiteboul must show his board of directors a success in this regard to continue to justify the program. Renault is currently the only representative who has not brought a single junior into Formula 1, at least since it started again.
In the past, it was possible to pave the way for some talents, but not in modern times, even though there were sometimes countless test pilots on board. By the way, you can read a full analysis of the junior teams here.
And who would be eligible for 2021? Actually, there are only two solutions: the Chinese Guanyu Zhou is the most logical option. He finished seventh in Formula 2 in 2019. Dane Christian Lundgaard has demonstrated his talent in Formula 3 and will make his Formula 2 debut in 2020.
All the others are too far away. These include: Max Fewtrell (England, Formula 3), Oscar Piastri (Australia, Formula 3) and the two Formula Renault Eurocup drivers Hadrien David (France) and Caio Collet (Brazil).

Green Light for Ghost Racing at Spa
We have to briefly interrupt our discussion because there is news: Spa-Francorchamps received the green light from the Belgian government for a closed-door Grand Prix. The race was on the brink due to regulations in the country, but now an obstacle would be removed.
“We finally got government support to organize the race,” Spas business director Stijn de Boever told Motorsport-Total.com.
Organizers also don’t have to pay an entrance fee. “We celebrate 50 years of Formula 1 history at Spa, so the race is important for Belgium and the region.”
What speaks against Alonso and Renault
However, there are also a few reasons why Fernando Alonso will return to Renault in 2021.
1. You will not compete for the World Championship with Renault
2. Alonso will be 40 years old next year
3. Does Renault want to make a pilot like Alonso?
4. Renault cannot justify spending on a star driver
5. Renault really has to show success in the junior program *
6. The big question: is Renault 2021 still there? *
We will talk more about the issues with the asterisks right away, because there certainly is a need for explanation.
Some of the points contradict each other, as you may have noticed, in terms of salary, for example, that Renault cannot afford it, but Alonso can give up money.
Currently, no one knows the truth exactly. The only thing that can be sure is that there is no contract ready for signature. Renault only found out about Daniel Ricciardo’s departure on Wednesday. There can be no agreement with Alonso so quickly … Actually.
What speaks for Alonso and Renault
As I said, there are some good reasons for Fernando Alonso’s return to Renault.
1. Alonso already knows the team and has won two world championships with him.
2. Christian Nimmervoll believes: He wants to return at all costs!
3. The car would probably be more competitive than it was in his McLaren era
4. You probably don’t care much about the money
5. I could put Ocon in his place and open another last door
6. He is free now
Fernando Alonso: go back to Renault?
It would be the next sensation on the Formula 1 driver carousel. Fernando Alonso is associated with a return to the team with which he was twice world champion. As is well known, the Spanish wanted to try the new regulations again. That was postponed to 2022, but it would be an opportunity for a comeback, even if it weren’t for a superior team.
Alonso and Renault recently leaked the balls on Twitter, and the media reports that the contract is almost settled. With us you have learned all the important exchange news first in the last few days, but in this case we still do not have any reliable information indicating a fixed exchange.
However, there are some good reasons for the return of Spanish. But also some who speak against it. And we want to evaluate them immediately.
