“Ultimately, you can see from this how important a high school diploma has become to parents. We would have great opportunities with the specialists ”, sighs Egon Blum in an interview with KURIER.
Almost two decades ago, the Vorarlberg businessman had raised a lot of dust as Federal Government Commissioner Schüssel II and Gusenbauer for “youth employment and apprenticeships”.
Companies received compensation for additional apprenticeships through their “Blum Bonus”, a funding model to support apprenticeship training in the company. It is said that 12,500 new apprenticeships have been created in this way. “What has been neglected since then is doing everything possible to ensure that dual training, specifically for skilled workers, gets the recognition it deserves. If a young man does not make an effort, he is still said to be doing an apprenticeship. In society, dual training is unfortunately well below its value, so it is only said to be important. But nothing has been done in this regard for over ten years, ”says Egon Blum, annoyed.
He proposes “finally” incorporating quality assurance – a review – into apprenticeships. This deficiency has given teaching a bad image. If successful, a job must be guaranteed. And you have to do everything possible to raise the image and quality of training.
